To perform puja of the Guru's Padukas is a rare and blessed opportunity for all. We offer our reverence to the teacher who has conveyed the teachings in word and example of the Eternal Vision and Truth, and to the Divine potential ever-present within us.
Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji touched the hearts of countless people and new generations also are looking at Him with reverence. To go with many occasions, the puja (ritualistic worship) of the Guru’s sandals is an expression of our devotion to the Truth that Gurudev symbolized. A Guru stands on his sandals (padukas) and also on the strength of his wisdom. So traditionally the worship of guru-paduka has been an adoration of spiritual wisdom.
Paduka Puja is an effective sadhana (spiritual practice) to purify our mind. Employing our body, speech and mind, we perform puja for inner development. Physical action like offering flowers and ringing the bell, vocal actions like chanting mantras and singing hymns and mental actions like feeling the presence of God - constitute the procedure of ritual. As we sincerely do it day after day our devotion to the Lord further increases and flows as an undercurrent all through the day’s activities.
Like all Hindu rituals the Padaka Puja is rich with symbolism. When we understand this symbolism we are better able to bring our entire personality to the experience. Such integration and surrender creates an atmosphere of love and reverence, enabling the nobler potentials within us to blossom. We offer this brief explanation of the puja so that all might be richly rewarded by witnessing and participating in its performance.

The Vishnu Sahasranaama was composed by Sri Veda Vyaasa, the author of the Puraanas, and we meet this great chant in his classical work, the Mahabhaarata. Prince Yudhishthira, the eldest son of the Pandavas, at the end of the war approached Bhishma Pitaamaha, when the mighty grandsire of the Kuru family was lying on a bed of arrows, unconquered and inconquerable, awaiting the sacred hour of his departure to the feet of the Lord. Yudhishthira, the righteous, asked six questions and Bhishma, the constant devotee of Krishna the gigantic Man of Action, calmly answered them all. This is how we find the “Thousand Names of Lord Vishnu” introduced in the immortal classic of the Hindus, the Mahabharata.
This Archana is generally performed by devotees daily; if this is not convenient they perform this worship at least on their own birthdays, on eclipse days and on the day on which the Sun moves from one Zodiac to another (the Samkraanti day). The Sastra has prescribed this puja for warding off troubles arising from the position of the planets, anger of the rulers, incurable diseases and ruthless enemies. The highest effect is for purifying the mind and thus gaining more and more inner-poise for the Saadhaka in meditation.
The Chinmaya Seva Centre conducts Vishnusahasranaamaa puja every month at Chinmaya Kesari.
This is a beautiful way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions and seek the Grace of the Lord.

The glory (mahima) of Hanumanji is sung in these forty verses. The son of Wind God who is the remover of all difficulties and whose form is so auspicious is invoked along with Lord Rama, Mother Sita and Lakshmana. Lord Rama represents Knowledg, Mother Sita – Devotion and Lakshmana – Dispassion. Worship of Sri Hanuman will inculcate these qualities in each one. Recitation of it with understanding and devotion will result in great benefit. One should chant it at least once every day. That will help purify one’s mind and lead one to the path of liberation. Swami Tejomayananda
Every Tuesday from 4 pm to 5.15 pm eleven times chanting followed by Sankat Mochan and Arati.
