History
The Chinmaya Yuva Kendra (CHYK) started out in Bangalore as the Chinmaya Youth Forum in 1975. It initially consisted of a small group of inspired teenagers guided by Pujya Gurudev. By 1977 the movement had spread to several parts of India culminating in the All India CHYK (AICHYK) Camp in Chennai. 1983 saw another milestone in the form of the first All India CHYK Conference and the formation of AICHYK as an apex body.
The year 2000 marked the 25th Anniversary of CHYK with more achievements to come. The 19th AICHYK Conference in 2002 gave birth to an International CHYK forum to coordinate activities of CHYK at an international level.
Global CHYK was first established in 2004. The first international CHYK camp was held in December 2006 in Coimbatore, India, and was attended by CHYKs from all over the world. As of today, there are more than 106 centres around the world, as CHYK continues to continually evolve.
