Events
In keeping with the spirit of spiritual growth, knowledge and seva, CHYK regularly organises talks, seminars, workshops, camps, weekend retreats and community service activities for youth, members of the Chinmaya Family and the public. All these are conducted to help in the blossoming of all the layers of the personality - physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual
Since 1987 when Swami Swaroopananda first came to Singapore he has been guiding the youth to date. Through workshops, seminars and talks Swamiji has brought about positive growth in the youth. The Chyks were then introduced to Swami Mitrananda in the early 1990’s - who brought in dynamism and exuberance in the group. Swami Abhedananda arrived as Acharya of Chinmaya Seva Centre in 2003 and continued to enthuse the young by taking weekly classes and retreats. Today we continue to have yearly visits by the Swamis and Br. Nishita Chaitanya.
In April 2008, CHYK, in conjunction with NUS Business School organised a youth seminar “Start Living - Smart Living” at the National University of Singapore. It was an interactive session conducted by Brahmacharini Nishita Chaitanya, which gave students practical tips on how to start living life to the fullest.
Various community service projects are undertaken, providing us with the opportunity to give back to society. Most recently, for Seva Day 2008, CHYK Singapore organised a Blood Donation Drive in conjunction with Singapore Red Cross Society. Earlier in the year year, CHYK organised a coastal clean-up of the East Coast Beach as part of our service to the community.
Some other CHYK-organised events include Seekers: Run Beyond - an island-wide amazing race in December 2006 and a carnival for the visually-handicapped in May 2006 and May 2007.
